Dhaka is the world’s most Noisy City

Dhaka is the noisiest city in the world. Moradabad of Uttar Pradesh is the second most noise polluted city. While Islamabad is in the third spot.

Bangladesh’s Dhaka tops the list with noise pollution of 119 dB (Decibels). While Pakistan’s Islamabad is at the third spot with 105 dB after UP’s Moradabad at 114 dB – making all the top three cities from South Asia. Delhi, Kolkata, Asansol, and Jaipur in India find spots on this list of 61 cities worldwide.

According to the Annual frontiers report 2022, Delhi’s noise level is at 83 dB, Kolkata and Asansol-89 dB, and 84dB in Jaipur. And The permissible noise level limits are 55 dB (decibels) for outdoor residential areas and 70 dB for commercial areas. World Health Organisation(WHO) sets the guideline for noise level limits.

22 million people in Europe suffer from chronic noise annoyance

The adverse effects of noise on public health are manifold and are a growing global concern. They cover a broad spectrum of outcomes,
ranging from mild and temporary distress to severe and chronic physical impairment. In Europe, long-term exposure to environmental noise causes 12,000 premature deaths and contributes to 48,000 new cases of ischemic heart disease yearly.
