The pandemic has driven faster growth for social jobs, according to the report ‘Future of Jobs 2023. World Economic Forum published this report. As the world faces a growing and aging global population, the importance of social jobs will no doubt increase.
Job postings have grown significantly for both social and other jobs since the pandemic. For 15 of the 22 countries analyzed, social jobs have grown faster than other jobs. Healthcare and Care jobs have grown faster than other jobs in 16 of the 22 countries. Education jobs, meanwhile, have grown faster than other jobs in 12 of 20 countries.
The pandemic has driven faster growth for social jobs
France, Ireland, and Belgium show particularly strong social-job growth relative to other countries. While Brazil, United Arab Emirates, and India are among the seven countries where job growth was slower for social jobs than non-social jobs. India shows negative growth in all the 3 sectors after the pandemic compared to that of the pre-pandemic scenario.

Education jobs
Jobs in the Education industry are expected to grow at around 10% during the 2023–2027 period. This growth could create additional 3 million jobs for Vocational Education Teachers and University and Higher Education Teachers. This growth is particularly prevalent in non-G20 countries. It is expected to be about 50% higher than in G20 countries.
Agriculture jobs
Jobs for Agricultural professionals, especially Agricultural Equipment Operators, are expected to see an increase of 30%. This could lead to an additional 3 million jobs. This increased demand may be driven by the combined effect of several trends such as supply chain shortening and input costs rising.
Growing and declining jobs
In the next five years, 83 million jobs would vanish and 69 million new jobs are projected to be created. This constitutes a reduction in employment of 14 million jobs or 2% of current employment.
AI and Machine Learning Specialists top the list of fast-growing jobs, followed by Sustainability Specialists and Business Intelligence Analysts. The majority of the fastest-growing jobs on the list are technology-related roles. The majority of the fastest declining roles are clerical or secretarial jobs.
A majority of companies will prioritize women (79%), youth under 25 (68%), and those with disabilities (51%) as part of their DEI programs. A minority will prioritize those from a disadvantaged religious, ethnic, or racial background (39%), and workers over age 55 (36%).
The largest job creation and destruction effects come from environmental, technological, and economic trends.
Technology adoption
Technology adoption will remain a key driver of business transformation in the next five years. Over 85% of organizations increased the adoption of new and frontier technologies. Within technology adoption, big data, cloud computing, and AI feature highly on the likelihood of adoption. More than 75% of companies are looking to adopt these technologies in the next five years.
The impact of most technologies on jobs is expected to be a net positive over the next five years. Big data analytics, environmental management technologies, and cyber security are expected to be the biggest drivers of job growth.
